Dhara - Store Manager, employee since 2004
Dhara has known The Brick brand her entire life. She started as a customer shopping in our stores and in 2004 she became a member of our team in Kelowna, BC. She began her career as a Sales Associate and soon took over as Sales Manager in Penticton. After taking time off to raise a family she returned to work as the Store Manager in our Leduc store.
"I love the people and the environment, I feel so comfortable here. We have great training tools as well. We have the opportunity to take part in product conferences, learn about our product, meet vendors, network and share ideas/thoughts with our peers. Our online learning is also amazing. Everything is easy to access and right there to take advantage of."
Grace - Financial Analyst, employee since 2009
What attracted Grace to a position at The Brick was our reputation. She wanted to work for a large company where the possibilities were endless. "We are a strong company built on community values and a family focus. We have a great story behind it, backed up by almost 40 years and we are still growing in the retail industry."
As a Financial Analyst, Grace works closely with a variety of Senior Management from several business units, providing her with valuable experience. "I love my job, I'm working with Sales, Information Services, Real Estate and I learn so much from the different business leaders."
As a full-time employee and part-time student the need for flexibility and support from Management is critical. "I'm currently working towards my CMA and the company is very supportive of education. Also a part of the mentorship program, my coach is helping me get where I want to be in my career - I'm getting the help from people with experience."
Shahir - Store Manager, employee since 1994
Shahir started as an appliance and electronics Sales Consultant in 1994 and after 3 months was promoted to Senior Sales; after 6 months to Sales Manager. He left the company to start his own business but returned after 6 years to pick up where he left off. Within 6 months of returning he was promoted to Store Manager.

As someone who understands work/life balance Shahir supports his team and their personal and professional goals. "If my staff can have less stress they are happier at work so I am happy to accommodate busy schedules."
Angie - Merchandising Manager, employee since 1993
Angie started in 1993 in Operations in our Grande Prairie store. After moving to Edmonton she transferred to the Corporate Office where she has held several positions including Inventory Analyst and Product Buyer.
"There are lots of opportunities and a number of departments you can move into. We are a fast-paced group with a thirst for knowledge and we are always busy. There are never dull moments."
As a Merchandising Manager Angie has been able to develop product lines and meet so many people through her travels. "I have the ability, in a sense, to run my own business. I take care of the marketing, financial and development side of my category. I'm able to travel the world to Furniture shows, see new product and make the buying decisions. There are so many opportunities and many people don't realize what is available at the Corporate Office."
Debbie - Inbound Receiver, employee since 2007
After a high recommendation of The Brick from her mother-in-law, a long time employee in our Corporate Office, Debbie applied and started her career with us in 2007.
The Distribution team is a close team who work together and Debbie quickly fit in.
"We are one big, happy family. I love coming to work everyday to work with our great team."
Debbie has been able to take on new roles and challenges throughout the Distribution Centre and has worked in many areas. "I've had the ability to move around in The Brick and explore the many job options available. With supportive Management and encouragement, I can cross train and grow in my role."
Aaron - Director of Stores, employee since 1998
Aaron was hired in 1998 as a part-time warehouse employee. Within months he moved into sales with a lot of success. His ambition and hard work took him all the way to the Director of Stores position for the Eastern Ontario Region. From the start he impressed Management with his energy and drive to be the best. Throughout his career he has worked in a variety of roles and now runs over 15 stores.
"If you work hard the opportunities present themselves. You don't have to be a Harvard Grad to move up in the company. If you set goals for yourself and work hard you will be rewarded. I was committed to being the best in every position I held and I continue to work with that drive."
Ron - Receiving Supervisor, employee since 1992
After coming to Canada from Jamaica in 1992 Ron joined our Brick team. He began in Fabric Protection and Scotch Guarding in the Edmonton Distribution Centre and was soon promoted throughout our warehouse to his current role as Receiving Supervisor. His first job in Canada turned into a career!

Darci - Director of Stores, employee since 1982
Darci started her career in 1982 at the Fort McMurray store working part-time as an office employee. Initially moving into Operations Management, Darci has also worked in Sales, Sales Management, Fleet Management, Distribution and Merchandising throughout her career.
